    In contrast to the hollywood movie produced from this novel, you'll find detailed characters, a well thought out plot and captivating action scenes that transport the reader directly into the 14th century. He intelligently describes a semi-operational time travel device in Timeline, as several archeological students are transported and subsequently trapped in France during a coming seige. I always enjoy Crichton's broad knowledge-base in his detailed sequences of the scientific and technological circumstances that appear in most of his popular fiction writings.
